How Cancer loves
Cancer loves protectively. You work out what somebody needs before they have said it, and then you provide it, often for years, without being asked and sometimes without being noticed. Moon-ruled affection is not performed — it shows up as a full fridge, a remembered anniversary, and a quiet reorganisation of your life around somebody else's.
You need to feel chosen, repeatedly and out loud. Being needed is not the same as being wanted, and you can spend a decade confusing the two. What you almost never ask for is the same care you give — you would rather be the one holding things together than admit you would like somebody to hold you for a while.
The Cancer pattern to watch
The pattern is the retreat. When you are hurt you do not confront, you withdraw, and you expect the other person to notice and come and find you. Sometimes they do. Often they read the shell as coldness and pull back too, and the whole thing calcifies over something that one direct sentence would have resolved.
What a good match looks like for Cancer
Look for someone who asks how you are and then waits for the real answer. Look for a partner who is comfortable with your moods rather than alarmed by them — you do not need to be fixed on a bad day, you need to be sat with. And look for someone who says the reassurance without you having to fish for it.
Cancer's easiest matches — and why
Scorpio and Pisces are the easy ones: Water signs do not need feelings explained, and the intensity you have learned to apologise for is simply the register they operate in. Taurus and Virgo work because Earth gives you the security you build everything else on, and neither will ever leave you guessing where you stand.
Cancer's hardest matches — and when they work anyway
Aries and Libra are the hard ones. Aries moves faster than you can process and reads your caution as rejection; you read their bluntness as a lack of care, and both of you are wrong. Libra will keep the peace rather than have the conversation, which is exactly what your worst instincts do too. It works when somebody finally says the difficult thing first.
Cancer as a friend
As a friend you are the one people call at 2am. You keep confidences absolutely, you remember what happened three years ago, and you notice when someone is not okay before they do. The cost is that you collect people's difficulties and carry them around, and almost nobody thinks to ask whether you are carrying too many.
Cancer in the long run
Long term, Cancer builds a home rather than a relationship — the two become the same thing. You are in it for the decades, and you will make enormous sacrifices without mentioning them. The healthiest thing you can do is say what those sacrifices cost, because a partner who never learns the price cannot possibly pay you back for it.
